Why You Need To Watch The World's First Bavarian Rodeo

Ever seen a rodeo tap a keg during grand entry? Or how about lederhosen-clad flag girls?

That’s exactly what you can expect from the 2018 Oldstoberfest in Olds, Alberta – the world’s first, and as far as we can tell, only Bavarian rodeo. This one of a kind event has great stock and some of the best cowboys and cowgirls in the CPRA and PRCA, but it also has some fun traditions that make it one you don’t want to miss.

Watch Oldstoberfest LIVE on FloRodeo September 14-15, 2018.

1. The Keg Tap

How many rodeos out there start with a quick tap of a keg, a pour and a salute to the crowd? In true Oktoberfest fashion, this rodeo always starts with the official tapping on a keg ceremony and a cheers to you from North America’s top professional rodeo athletes, right in the middle of the arena!

2. The Beer Steins

Buckles just wouldn’t do for a Bavarian-themed rodeo, so organizers came up with an engraved beer stein that cowboys can be proud to sip, or chug, their favorite brew out of for years to come.

3. The Oompah Band

Not your typical tune, but dang that tuba is catchy!

The live oompah band is in site and ready to send day leaders around the arena in style while they take their victory laps.

4. Lederhosen… Everywhere.

From the flag girls to the mascot, right down to the volunteers that have them printed on their t-shirts emblazoned with “Das Volunteer” on the back, this rodeo is riddled with lederhosen.

Rumor has it there is even going to be a lederhosen wild ride. Can you imagine the saddle sores from those shorts?

Amidst all the fun that this rodeo always brings to the table, they’re also bringing you C5 Rodeo’s “A-Team” of horses and bulls including matchups like Ty Taypotat on F13 Virgil in the bareback riding, Sam Kelts on 80 Rock Star in the Saddle Bronc, and Scott Schiffner on 106 Freakazoid in the bull riding.

Along with some of those roughstock matchups, the timed event list is looking sharp with some big names on the draw from both North and South of the border including:

Tie-Down: Matt Shiozawa, Stetson Vest, Al Bouchard, and Riley Warren

Steer Wrestling: Tanner Milan, Scott Guenthner, Kody Dollery, and Curtis Cassidy

Barrel Racing: Carman Pozzobon, Taylor Manning, Shayna Weir, and Nicole Laurence

Team Roping: Brett McCarroll/Justin McCarroll, Levi Simpson/Jeremy Buhler, Roland McFadden/Devin Wigemyr, and Denver Johnson/Tristin Woolsey.
