3-Time Canadian Champ Jake Vold Says ‘I’m Chomping At The Bit”

Jake Vold Back From Injury

After months of physio, three-time Canadian champion bareback rider Jake Vold has returned to competition. He hadn’t been to a rodeo since the eighth round of the 2017 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, but the Vold name was a welcome sight on the draw sheet for the Grande Prairie Stompede in Grande Prairie, Alberta—his first event back since the injury.

We caught up with Vold shortly after he underwent surgery on December 22 to remove a bone chip and replace his medial patellofemoral ligament with a donor ligament. The injury occurred when he was smashed into the chutes during the WNFR and forced him to turn out of the final two rounds.

So far, Vold has had a successful return to competition: Vold picked up a small check at both the Hand Hills Lake Stampede (Craigmyle, Alberta) in his first weekend back and at the Rocky Pro Rodeo (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta) the next weekend. Knowing Vold, he is just warming up and we should be seeing him at the top of the leaderboard in the near future.
