The Nebraska cowboy has come close winning RFD-TV’s The American, presented by Dish, before – but Cort Scheer has never been able to take home the saddle bronc riding title at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas — until now. Aboard Frontier Rodeo Company’s “Medicine Woman” — who he previously placed second with at The American — Scheer made an impressive 89-point ride to win the 2018 edition of the event.

“That halter fits my rein pretty good,” Scheer said in a press conference after the event, where he relayed several successful rides in the past on the bay horse that has had an average stock score in the PRCA of 22.7 points over the last few years.

The cowboy that has been to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo five times before was nothing but smiles as soon as his feet hit the ground after his ride. And with good reason: after sweating out the last competitors to ride in the top four round, the potential to win $433,333 became a reality.

The “true cowboy” said he had been on the road for a week before the finals and had family taking care of his cattle at home, but he would happily be taking that $433,333 back home to resume his calving duties. Usually an exhausting and frustrating chore, Scheer will probably do it with a smile on his face for weeks to come.
