Westyn Hughes: From PRCA Rookie Of The Year To Leaderboard Regular

Hughes: PRCA Rookie To Leaderboard Regular

He stood out as the 2016 PRCA Tie-Down Roping Rookie of the Year, but Westyn Hughes made waves in 2017. The Caldwell, Texas, cowboy finished 20th in the PRCA standings, and although he didn't get to compete at the Thomas & Mack Center, he was in Las Vegas for the CINCH Boyd Gaming Chute-Out.

While there, Hughes faced off against current hot shots and rodeo legends and made his presence known by winning the second round, semifinals, and chute-out round at the event. Hughes also tied the fastest calf of the finals during round two with this 7.3-second run.

But that wasn't all he did in 2017. He also earned two qualification spots for the semifinals of The American while at the Future Stars of Calf Roping jackpot in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and the Roping Fiesta in San Angelo, Texas.

2018 is already looking exciting for this young tie-down roper.
