Rodeo Dads: This Day Is For You

I grew up with a dad who other young ropers looked up to. He was a multi-time Canadian champion and a WNFR qualifier, but to me he was just "dad."

He taught me how to ride—maybe a little early for my mom’s comfort—he taught me how to rope, and how to be a competitor. He is also the guy who, when I was about 5 years old, I strolled right up to while he was busy teaching a roping school, handed him my pink fuzzy purse, roped the dummy once, then collected my purse with a quick “thanks, daddy,” and walked away.

Above all else, he was the one that gave me a love for rodeo and for that I will be forever grateful.

So Happy Father’s Day, dad, and to all of the “rodeo dads” out there. Whether you compete in the rodeo arena yourself or do your best to introduce your kids to the sport, this day is for you.
