Rodeo Recap: Jr Roping Roundup, All-Around Wright & We Honor You

On this week's rodeo recap, we've been roping calves all weekend at the 33rd Annual Championship Jr Roping Roundup, yet another Wright is proving he has the talent to make it as a pro rodeo cowboy, PBR Canada saw a familiar name atop their leaderboard in Halifax and, above all, we pay tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Future Of Tie-Down Roping & Breakaway Roping Looks Bright At The Championship Jr Roping Roundup

There's enough talent at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum and Fairgrounds in Ardmore, Oklahoma, this weekend to rope anything that moves. Competitors of all ages descended upon the fairgrounds on Friday for the 33rd Annual Championship Jr Roping Roundup, hosted by the Burk family.

Categories went as young as a 10-and-under breakaway roping, all the way open to an open breakaway and tie-down roping. In a world that is constantly becoming more urban, it’s great to see young cowboys and cowgirls that still want to learn how to rope, including this 7-year-old future superstar who showed his stuff in Ardmore:

He may not have been the fastest cowboy there, but you can bet we’ll see this cowboy on the leaderboards in the future as he carries on the western tradition.

Stetson Wright Making A Name For Himself As Both A Saddle Bronc Rider & Bull Rider

With the last name Wright, you better be able to ride broncs. But Stetson Wright is making waves as a multi-event cowboy in both the event his family is so famous for as well as the bull riding.

A brand-new high school graduate and the son of two-time world champion Cody Wright, Stetson is just starting to get his feet wet in the pro rodeo game and has already earned PRCA dollars in both of his chosen events. Just last weekend, Wright scored 88 points on Bar T Rodeo’s “City Lights” in the saddle bronc riding to win the event, then came back to split third in the bull riding with a score of 82.5 points at the Pony Express Rodeo in Eagle Mountain, Utah.

Looking at the Utah High School Rodeo Standings, Wright is tied for the season lead in the saddle bronc and is just half a point behind the leader in the bull riding. The young cowboy is only competing on his PRCA permit for now, but I bet it won’t be long until you see the addition of “Stetson” to the many Wright’s that sit in the top 50 in the PRCA world standings.

Marcos Gloria Leads PBR Canada Standings After Second Consecutive Victory

After winning his second PBR Canada premier Monster Energy Tour event in a row, Central de Minas, Brazil’s Marcos Gloria has surged to the lead in the Canadian PBR standings. Gloria saw his second consecutive victory at the Scotia Bank Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with an 86.5-point in round two, which secured the round victory and—with a strong pen of bulls that only allowed a handful of rides—the event win.

Gloria made his ride aboard Wild Hogg’s Bucking Bulls’ "Ulterra’s Night Vision," earning 500 Canadian points and 120 world points. He has a total of 1490 points to sit No. 1 in the Canadian standings over Brock Radford’s 1357.5, and his total of 590 world points sees him in the No. 30 spot in the world standings.

Since 1868, this day has been established to honor those who fought, and while many enjoy a day of relaxation, backyard barbeques, and time with family, above all else, today we honor you.
