The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) Board of Directors are taking the time to review and consider proposals submitted for the future of the Canadian Finals Rodeo. Proposals for Canadian rodeo’s pinnacle event of the year were due to be submitted by interested cities on December 19.

An offer from Red Deer, Alberta is already on the table after the city, Alberta’s Westerner Park and the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce presented a proposal to the public and the CPRA the end of November. In a December 1 press release, CPRA spokesperson Jeff Robson laid out the process for selecting the next city to host the CFR.

“We are working with other communities and organizations as well and look forward to receiving additional proposals by December 19,” said Robson, “The Board will review all bids at the December 20 board meeting; then we’ll take some time to consider our options and come to a decision by the end of the year.”

At this time the CPRA is not releasing the names of the other cities involved in the bidding process to allow time for due process to occur.

The CFR is looking for a new home because it’s current venue, the Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton, Alberta, will be surrendering the building to the city of Edmonton on January 1, 2018. The city has not yet revealed a final decision on the fate of the building, but previous plans included the possibility of tearing the building down.
