The first of two regular season CBR Championship Futurity Tour (CFT) events was held in Lufkin, Texas at the George Henderson Expo Arena on Saturday morning. There were a total of eight teams with a total of 24 bulls competing in the 2-year-old bucking bull futurity. Now in its sixth year, the CBR's competition for young bulls included a total purse of $15,000.

The 2-year-old youngsters were judged on their kick, strength, and intensity -- simultaneously, with how quickly they turned back with speed. Judging the future of the bucking bull industry was Roach Hedeman, Dan Brown, Mel Kimbro, and Glenn Sullivan.

After all the dust had settled, the top three bulls collectively were from the Warriors team owned by D & H Cattle and partners of Ardmore, Oklahoma. The top three bulls earned $7,500 in prize monies, a custom pair of Fenoglio boots, and a Champion Hyo Silver custom engraved buckle.

Anchoring team Warriors was 521C Royal Reel with 87.5 points. 521 is owned by Bob and Jeri Adams, and D & H. 08C Danny Boy is owned by OK Corralis, Gordon, and D & H. 537 Air Assault is owned by 444 Bucking Bulls, Winston, Davis, Durham, and D & H.

"In my opinion 537 had the best trip and was the best bull today," said Rooster Gilstrap representing D & H at the CFT event. "He was really electric, kicks through every jump and has a lot of gas when he turns back, when the kicks break over… it helps, and he has everything you need to put a good score together."

According to Gilstrap, the bulls have competed before and all performed as expected.

The two highest-marked bulls of the event were on the second-place team, named the Cavs. The lead bucker on this D & H team was 09C Firewater, (owned by Barthold/Kuhn/Almand/D & H), who earned 88.5 points from the four judge system. Firewater edged out his teammate 504C High Carbon (owned by Moore/Buck Cattle/D & H) by just a quarter point for the rank bull honor of the futurity. 587C Compactor (Moore/Buck Cattle/D&H Cattle) rounded out the second-place team. The Cavs team's second-place finish was earned with 251.5 total points.

Benny Cude bucked three bulls that were all bred and raised at his ranch in Priddy, Texas. Sired by Headliner and Cude Energy, these three bucking brothers posted 245 points for their third-place finish. Cude's anchor bull was 569 Bad Heat, a little black bull with a white face who was smallest of the three but delivered with a steady stream of high kicks with plenty of power.

The second installment of the 2017 CBR Championship Futurity Tour will take place on March 25 in Salina, Kansas, and begin at 8 AM. The 2017 CFT World Finale will take place once again in Conroe, Texas with a $5,000 entry fee with 100-percent payback.
