Luke Brown And Jake Long Win The 2017 Bob Feist Inviational
Luke Brown and Jake Long had the honor of claiming the title as the 2017 Bob Feist Invitational champions on Monday in Reno, Nevada.
The Bob Feist Invitational (BFI) Team Roping is known as the most anticipated Monday of the year for team ropers, and the 40th annual event didn't disappoint at the Reno Livestock Event Center in Reno, Nevada, this week.
Luke Brown and Jake Long had the prestigious honor of claiming the title as the 2017 Bob Feist Invitational champions on Monday. The team split $120,000 in cash and several prizes.
As the largest one-day open roping in the country, this year's BFI featured 100 of the nation's best teams. The roping had five full go-rounds, and then the top 15 teams on five head advanced to the short-round. The short-round is where the champions were crowned, based on who was the fastest in the six-steer average.
Winning the BFI has become a prestigious honor over the years. The first three BFIs were held in Chowchilla, CA, before being moved for a year to Las Vegas, Nevada. After Las Vegas, the BFI moved to Texas, where it should have thrived, but team roping was not popular in Texas in the late 70s and early 80s. The BFI finally found its home in Reno in 1982.
The most anticipated Monday of the year is now the most anticipated week of the year, as the BFI now hosts ropings all week. Tuesday features the #11 Million Dollar Invitational Team Roping. Wednesday features the #12 High Desert Showdown, and Thursday features the all-girl challenge team roping and breakaway roping.
Another highlight of the day was watching Cory Petska heel on "Stringray." Everyone knows "Stingray" is a phenomenal mare and outstanding barrel horse, but it was exciting to see her excel at such a high level event in team roping.
