Jordan Bassett's Magnificent Finish At Red Dirt Classic Futurity
If you were to ask Arizona native Jordan Bassett about her 2017 futurity year so far, she would describe it as a "magical." The young blonde bombshell is quickly climbing the ranks as one of the hottest futurity trainers and jockeys in the barrel horse industry.

This past weekend, Bassett added another futurity championship to her already impressive resume after she won the Red Dirt Classic Futurity held in Rock Springs, Wyoming. We were able to catch up with Bassett and ask her a few questions about the event and the bay powerhouse on which she rode to victory!

FloRodeo: Was this your first time to the Red Desert Classic Futurity?

Bassett: Yes, this was the very first time that I have entered this futurity. The beginning of June is usually when I take a small vacation and normally go to the NBHA Supershow in Las Vegas with my mom and sister, but this year I had business to tend to!

Tell us about the horse you won the futurity on.
His name is Magnum, and he is a 5-year-old stallion by Frenchmans Guy and out of Tell Em Belle, who is by Tres Seis and out of Teller Cartel. Butch and Stephanie Webb own him, and he stands in Colorado.

What about Magnum makes him a winner?
I have never ridden a horse as solid as him, so I would say his mind, his consistency, and his big heart!

Tell us about your futurity runs at the Red Dirt Classic.
My first run in the futurity was on Magnum, and he worked fabulous! There wasn't much room for error. He won second in the round behind my other horse Mimis On Firewater, who is also owned by Butch and Stephanie Webb.

In round two, Magnum's consistency and heart shined through as he made another very solid run, winning the round and the average!

How many futurities have you won this year so far?
This was my fourth futurity win this year and the second horse that I have won a futurity on this year.

What are your plans for the remainder of the year?
Magnum's next futurity is the Colorado Classic and then in July we will hit the 5-States Futurity and the Dash N Dance. He got a late start in his futurity career, so we are going to try and hit as many as we can as long as he stays healthy and happy.

I would like to thank Butch and Stephanie Webb for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to ride two incredible athletes. I also would like to thank my sponsors who keep me going down the road: Nevill Ranch, Earnhardt Dodge, Copper Ridge, Top Hat Saddlery, CoolAid, RES Boots, Prescott Frontier Days, Hubbard Trailer Sales, Loyal Threads, ZESM, Oxy-Gen, Curysin, and Desert Rose Equine.

Congrats, Jordan, on another awesome weekend at the futurities!
