Mike White did not say, let's make team roping as dangerous as bull riding. But he probably thought, why not make it as much fun. And while we're at it, raise some money for charity.

The eighth annual Mike White International Pasture Roping was held in Dekalb, Texas, on April 13-15, featuring three days of exciting activities and culminating with an Easter egg hunt for kids. There was a silent auction, dozens of vendors, cash, and great prizes for all of the winners -- and pasture roping, of course.  When the final tabulations are in, Ropin' Dreams and local ISD coach Jessica Burgin (who are sharing the charitable proceeds) will receive somewhere between $30,000-40,000 dollars.

The whole city of Dekalb is behind us," White said. "It's probably the biggest thing that's ever happened to Dekalb.
White said he decided to split the money earmarked for charity from this year's event after reading about Jessica Burgin's battle with stage 4 colon cancer. He wanted to do something to help her and her family.

When asked who won the roping, White chuckled and said, "Jake Orman and myself. We won the Open To The World pasture roping. It's the first time in eight years that I won this thing." Peyton Walters and Cash Davis won the No. 12 pasture roping.

White's inspiration for this annual event began in 2004 when he and his wife, Hanna, visited a child at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The PBR told White there was a kid there who wanted to meet him. White and his wife spent nearly four hours playing bucking bull with this child. White said the experience literally changed his life.
