Running a boutique business is not for the faint at heart, especially one that operates solely online. For store owners like Shayla Cox, staying up-to-date with the latest fashion styles and trends can be a full-time job in itself, much less meeting the demands of high-speed internet retail.

Cox, who grew up roping and competing in rodeos all across Texas, started The Mini Pearl Boutique started in May 2016. Even though she doesn't compete much now, she still goes to cheer on her brother, Blane Cox, who is a WNFR qualifier. The idea for a the name The Mini Pearl came from Shayla and Blane's first roping pony, "Mini Pearl." She has always had her own unique style and a love for designing, and that passion only grew when she had her daughter, Brylee, who is now 2.

"My idea for a boutique started out in little girls fashion, because of Brylee," Cox said. "I wanted designs and styles that I could create myself. So, I thought why not design my own baby and kids dusters in some awesome prints. I also have the distressed skinnies for babies and kids that match the dusters."

Now, The Mini Pearl carries a wide array of boho-Western chic fashions for both women and little girls. It also carries handmade leather jewelry, Navajo turquoise piece, shoes, and more. The boutique continues to grow and shape with time.

My goal is to have boho-Western chic little fashionistas wearing my designs all around the world," Cox said. "I love providing women with some great fashion as well!
She admits that the boutique world can be a lot to keep up with at times, especially with a very active toddler and a full-time job. But, she continues to work hard and keep her mind on the future. Cox runs the boutique strictly online, but she tries to provide her customers with new finds daily and good, fast customer service.

"My vision for the future is to also design my own line of women's dusters like I have for babies and kids, so moms can match their little fashionistas," Cox said. "I have hooked up with an amazing artist that is drawing up some amazing designs for graphic tees in the near future, which will be exclusive to The Mini Pearl as well.

The satisfaction of helping women find something to make themselves and their daughters feel beautiful continues to provide motivation and satisfaction for Cox to continue growing her boutique. Cox uses Pinterest for inspiration and to stay current with the latest trends, along with her own unique style she tries to incorporate into her boutique.

"I always want to have a Western look but also love the boho style as well," said Cox. "Dusters are my go-to piece. They can almost complete any outfit.
