Everything You Need to Know About the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo

For 10 days every December, Las Vegas becomes cowboy town during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

The WNFR is where world champions are crowned for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Women's Professional Rodeo Association. It is where dreams are realized, hard work comes to fruition, and new rodeo fans are born every year.

On December 1-10, the WNFR returns to the Thomas & Mack Center on UNLV's campus -- the site of the PRCA and WPRA finale each year since 1985. Featuring more prize money than ever before, this year's WNFR promises to be its most exciting edition.

The top 15 contestants in the world standings for bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding are qualified to compete at the WNFR, and the world champions are determined based on total season earnings.

The WNFR consists of 10 grueling rounds over 10 straight days, matching the best cowboys and cowgirls against the top livestock available. Contestants earn money by placing in the top six in any round and pick up more money by placing in the top eight in the average (the cumulative points or times earned during the 10 rounds).

The average title is one of the most coveted in rodeo, trailing only a world championship. At the end of each WNFR, there are two champions in each event (four for team roping).

Average winner, who won the Wrangler NFR by having the best cumulative time or score in his or her event over the 10 rounds.

World champion, who finished the year with the most money (including what he or she earned at the WNFR).

For each event, the average winner and world champion may be the same person or different people.

The WNFR never fails to deliver a thrilling finale to the rodeo season. Stay tuned to FloRodeo on December 1-10 to see who walks away from Las Vegas with a gold buckle and world championship!
