If you were to ask the 27-year-old blonde bombshell, Jordan Bassett, from Dewey, Arizona what her favorite thing about the state Washington is, I am pretty-sure that winning and barrel racing would be the focus of her answer. The highly talented barrel futurity horse trainer started off her two week stay in the Evergreen State winning the coveted Sand Cup Futurity aboard Mimi's On Firewater.

The Sand Cup Futurity was introduced to the futurity industry 11 years ago, and has been one of the most sought out futurities of the year. Last year, the event pulled in over 1700 entries over the course of 2.5 days making it one of the largest races in the western hemisphere. With $8,000 added in the futurity, it is no wonder that most futurity trainers have the Sand Cup on their "bucket list". Both veteran and first-time futurity trainers alike will make the long-haul to Washington to test their luck at winning some of the incredible money that is up for the takin'. This year, it was Jordan Bassett, daughter of Hall Of Fame Quarter Horse Racing Trainer John Bassett, that left Moses Lake with pocket's full of cash and a heap of awesome prizes!

Bassett jockeyed Butch and Stephanie Webb's 5-year-old Mimi's On Firewater to the win, making this their 3rd futurity average win of the season thus far! "Honey" as they affectionately call the stunningly beautiful mare is by the iconic Dash Ta Fame and out of a blue hen mare Fire Water Fanny, by Fire Water Flit. Fire Water Fanny herself was a force to be reckoned with on the cloverleaf pattern and it looks as though she passed on her winning ways down to her daughter.

In the first round of the futurity, Bassett and "Honey" finished in second place behind other notable and respected futurity trainer Pete Oen. Oen shut the clock off with a 15.231 and Bassett was hot on his heels posting a 15.291.

"I felt like my first run was my prettier of the two! She didn't leave me much room for error so I rode hard and held my breath the whole way. I even had to hold my toes in to get around them and it worked," said the Chik-Filet lovin' trainer.

Pocketing $1,732.80 in the round gave Bassett the jump-start she needed going into the second round.

After our first run, I was even more excited to run in the second round and see what we could accomplish. I was fueled and ready to give it our best in round two.

And giving it her best was exactly what Bassett did in round two. Bassett clocked the fastest run of the futurity, a 15.220, which sealed the deal for the average championship. Her total time on two runs of 30.511 got her an additional paycheck for $1,925.33, along with another $1,925.33 for winning round two. With her wallet being $5,500 heavier, Bassett also left with some incredible prizes.

"I am very fortunate and grateful to have the opportunity to ride such an incredible athlete. I am very thankful to the owners and to the rest of my team that continues to let me do what I love and live my dreams. Without any of them, none of this would be possible!"
